Behind the Camera | Wedding at Lake Travis

A few weeks ago my husband and I attended a wedding at Lake Travis, a gorgeous spot just outside of Austin. I have been to a lot places in and around Dallas, but I haven’t done the same for Austin. I was excited to go there, as I heard it was gorgeous. We decided to stay at a unique hotel called The Lone Star Court.

Lone Star Court

This hotel was super cute. Very southern, with cute details in the room like a larger vintage fridge and mason jars in the bathroom. The bathroom had a gorgeous barn door, thus it made me want to put one in my house! Around the hotel are different buildings for activities, like eating and watching movies. In the courtyard they have a huge smoker that smells like it gets used a lot. Of course there is a pool, it is the south!

Toronto Wedding Photographer – McKinlay Wedding

Toronto Wedding Photographer – McKinlay Wedding

As Thanksgiving draws near, it’s impossible to undermine the importance of gratitude. However, amidst all the cooking, planning, and cleaning, it’s easy to forget how vitally important it is to stop and take stock of the blessings in your life.  Today I want to take a moment and say thank you to two of my amazing friends – Krislynn and Brandon McKinlay. Thank you for blessing me with the opportunity to capture such a beautiful moment in your lives. Thank you for allowing me the chance to be so inspired by the obvious love you two have for each other.

Kris and Brandon met at a bar, if you can believe it! They both were at Emma’s Back Porch and Brandon saw her across the room and asked her to dance. And as they say… the rest was history. They salsa danced the night away, and as Brandon puts it, Kris was “so much fun, a breath of fresh air”. An instant connection was made, which was so strong that although Kris lived 3 hours away from Brandon, they decided to give it a try. They drove to each other in their free time and Brandon knew then that she was different. He says she still continues to surprise him. It’s stories like this that melt my heart and give me hope. I’d like to share a snippet of Krislynn’s vows with you. These words still bring tears to my eyes, 3 months later

“As a family, we will create a home filled with learning, laughter, and compassion. I promise to work with you to foster and cherish a relationship of equality knowing that together we will build a life far better than either of us could imagine alone. I promise to nurture your dreams, because through them your soul shines.”

This is love. This is beautiful love, and thus I wish nothing less than a lifetime of learning, laughter and compassion for these two beautiful souls.

From personal and professional experience, I can wholeheartedly say that there is so much unseen work done by so many unseen people when it comes to weddings. Continuing with an attitude of gratitude, I would like to take a minute and extend a big thanks to all of the vendors that helped make the McKinlay’s wedding so beautiful.

Houston family photographer – Gnatt Family

Houston family photographer – Gnatt Family

The Gnatt family was an absolute blast to work with! I was lucky enough to get the opportunity to work with Justine and her handsome men after she won a session in a silent auction!  I love being a Houston family photographer, so this was extra exciting! <3

We decided on a fun, light outdoor session with plenty of natural lighting and giggles to go around!

We started our journey at the super fun graffiti wall on Leland and finished up our session at Discovery Green. Beautiful shades of green and blue were worn which tied in perfectly with the light, outdoor setting.

My favorite part of this session had to be when Brixton and his parents got to play with the super fun superhero gear brought along. It’s always beautiful to see families playing together. It touched my heart to see that Matt and Justine are not just parents, teachers, and leaders for their beautiful son Brixton, but also a playmates and friends who get to share in the bountiful fun that is enjoyed at this age.

I remember my dad chasing me around the house playing tag or pretending he didn’t hear my giggles from behind the curtains when we played hide-and-go-seek. These moments are the moments my heart lives for, and the moments I love capturing. Being able to provide the Gnatt’s with a snapshot of this fun, exciting time in their life was such an honor. I know they will truly cherish every fleeting moment of love, fun and laughter they, as a family, are blessed with.

Back to School Mini Sessions!

Something New!

This year I threw caution to the wind and offered back to school mini sessions in August. I wanted to capture kids as the embarked on their next school year, as I know time is fleeting. Your children will only be this age once and getting a few pictures of them as they move onto a new stage is precious! I also remember, as a child, having new clothes for the first day and the excitement {yet nervousness} of starting in a new class. Would be friends be in this class; would that guy who hates me sit near me? Lastly, would me teacher be nice? Photographing these kids brought it all back.

The Sessions

Little did I know that I would be booking cute children who were {mainly} starting their first year of school. Guys, the cuteness. It was insane!! I felt my heart growing two sizes as I got to know these children. They were all learning to read, loving the pictures in their books. Coloring was also adored, as well as a globe I purchased.

Halloween 2016

I love Halloween!

Happy belated Halloween! This year I decided to host a party that turned into one of the busiest weeks of my year. Of course at the time I didn’t know the week of Halloween was going to be this busy, but things popped up. I had planned loosely on being unicorn and my husband Voldemort, but I wasn’t sure how things were going to come together. I was lucky to have two friends come over to my home early to help me put the home together, as I put everything together in one day!

I decided to be a funky unicorn–I had a pink tutu, white shirt, rainbow sleeves for my arms and an adorable headband! I got my hair and makeup professional done by Styled by Kelsey V and I looked slightly crazy, but in a great way!
