Houston Wedding Photographer | Adam + Adriana

Remember that magical engagement session, where Adam and Adriana dressed up and played with wands? Well, that captivating couple got married!! While planning their wedding, hurricane Harvey hit and it forced them to postpone it by four months.

Adam’s parents live in a home that has a large, beautiful backyard, and it was the perfect place for the wedding. Adam, Adriana and his parents worked feverishly to create a pond feature, the ceremony area and piece the backyard back together after the flooding. And all their hard work paid off!!

About the Couple

These two met in high school and haven’t looked back. I love it that they have been together this long, growing up and growing together as a couple. They shared from the start a passion for gaming and movies. This matured into a passion for food, trying new places to eat and exploring the amazing food scene in Houston. Hence, one of their favorite places to eat is at Gordon Street Tavern, and I don’t blame them–that place is delicious!!

Wedding Highlights

Since the bride and groom are fun and passionate about things like Harry Potter, you know they had to incorporate some of that into their wedding! Adam wore Hufflepuff cufflinks and their wands made an appearance during portraits. And you know I was feeling all of that! I loved how the day was filled with so much love and laughter. Adam launched his fist in the air while kissing Adriana at the end of the ceremony, which made everyone laugh. Also, the entire wedding party was ridiculous and funny, always getting silly without too much encouragement! The cake and desserts were done by the Dessert Gallery–a place they went to on their first date! Lastly, Adriana’s dances with her father’s was so touching, with laughter and tears, emotion rippling through everyone.

But the true highlight? The couple! So every image of them, you can feel their joy in getting married. They simply love each other and you can feel it in every glance, laugh and kiss.

5 Things to Think About if Wedding Pictures are Important to You

You’re sitting here thinking “Of course wedding pictures are important to me, Christine!”. But I ask because when you are planning your wedding there are a lot of areas where you can cut costs, and with some of those choices you don’t notice the cut, but in others you do. In all honestly, wedding pictures are an area where if you cut too deep, you wind up with images you might not just regret but ultimately hate. So today I dig into 5 things you should think about if wedding pictures are important to you.

When a photographer is breaking into the wedding industry they typically price themselves in a lower {aka more appealing} price bracket. For reference, the average cost for a wedding photographer, according to The Knot, is $2783. I like to say the you can find a great photographer within $500 higher or lower for this amount. But anything less than $2200 and you are entering into what I call “newer” photographer territory. So to help navigate these waters, where you don’t want to spend an arm, leg and kidney for your images, but you still want the WOW factor, here are some tips in getting there:Swish + Click Photography (more…)

6 Ways to Find the Best Vendors for your Wedding

best vendors for your weddingBest Vendors for Your Wedding

Finding the best vendors for your wedding can be tricky! These 6 tips are a guide to help you navigate hiring the best vendors for your wedding. You are essentially planning a big party, with a lot of people contributing to it. It can be overwhelming, and more times than I care to admit, I have heard horror stories about everything to florists, to bakers, DJs and venues to {gasp!} photographers. You don’t want that to be you! To help you make the best decisions possible, here are a few tips from my experience both as a bride and as an industry professional.

Contracts

Have one!

Promise me now, you will not hire any vendor without signing a contract. A contract you have read and understand. This piece of paper isn’t there to just protect the business owner; it’s there to protect you too. It sets the expectations for both parties to come together and do business. The wedding industry is made up mainly of self-employed individuals, and if you know the ‘right’ person, you might get a great discount {yay you!}, but don’t hire them if there isn’t even a whisper of a contract. That contract holds them accountable for their services to you and outlines payment, among other things.

Guardians of the Galaxy Styled Wedding

Guardians of the Galaxy?

Um heck yes to Guardians of the Galaxy! All of you know I have quirky ideas, right? And a passion for Marvel? Well this passion has helped me create some pretty cool ideas, but I am truly in love with how this one turned out. The plus side? We are featured in Offbeat Bride for these pictures this week! I cannot think of a better reason to celebrate the second movie in the series coming out than by giving you these pictures to feast on!

The Table Settings

It’s Guardians of the Galaxy, so obviously there is a lot of gold in this. From the linens, to the cutlery, glasses, table chargers. It’s the perfect setting to show of dark pops of blue, green and burgundy. To add a subtle space feel, terrariums were used to hold the flowers. I love the height of the flowers almost as much as the starburst napkin holders. Also, rock candy was added to all the floral arrangements. How to Maximize Your Wedding Day: A Wedding Photographer’s Perspective

maximize your weddingMaximize Your Wedding Day

It is completely possible to maximize your wedding day photography coverage. Your wedding day passes faster than you can image. Having a game plan for your wedding day, to get the pictures that you want is, from a photographer’s perspective, truly important. You want to have the photographers there long enough to capture some before ceremony moments, but to also stay long enough to get those flower tossing, garter-grabbing moments. So how do you maximize your time while getting the images you want?

First Look

Doing a first look helps you space out your day better. It might not be traditional, but it is becoming so popular these days, that it isn’t out of left field anymore. By having those twenty or so minutes together before you get married helps you get some {if not all} of your portraits with each other. It is also a great moment for the two of you to have, with no one else around. You can collect yourselves, love on each other. Every first look I have photographed has been heartfelt and gorgeous.

Puppy Styled Engagement Session | C Wright Photography

Puppy + Owner = True Love

You know that going into doing a puppy styled engagement session that there would still be a theme to it. I mean yes, puppies on their own are cute AF, but as the ever creative person that I am, a little theme had to be thrown in there. The inspiration behind this styled session was to show that you don’t need a romantic partner in your life, that the love you and your dog have is more than enough.

Soulmate Has Four Legs

Let this be your inspiration to do pictures with your puppy! It doesn’t have to be cutesy and off-the-cuff! It can be a gorgeous sparkly skirt, a themed top and a matching puppy collar! In this set we included some gorgeous calligraphy signs and made it feel elegant and, well, adorable!! Look how the puppy Roxy basically grins in almost all the pictures? Too cute!!Puppy styled engagement sessionsoulmate has four legs

How to Add Personality to Your Wedding Cake Topper

Cake Toppers Rule!

If you read my last post about wedding cakes, you will note I love a slightly more traditional cake. This leaves plenty of room to add personality to the top of the cake–which will please not only you, but also grandma Rose and your mom. Sure they might not look at the topper and think “so elegant!”, they will be in awe of the cake for that emotion! Nah, the cake topper is your chance to shine. The following are some ideas on how to make your cake topper go from traditional to filled with personality!

Pets? Pets!

A lot of couples I know have pets and want to incorporate them into their wedding. I mean they are your first kids, right? You spend quality time cuddling on the couch, doing snapchat with them, among other things. Plus, when you incorporate your dog or cat into your cake topper, it honestly goes up a full notch!! My personal favorite are the silhouette ones, but they are all cute.

Favorite Wedding Cakes | Houston Wedding Photographer

Mmmmm Wedding Cakes

I am surprised it took this long for me to write about my favorite wedding cakes considering I am such a foodie. But who cares! This post is intended to inspire you and make you hungry at the same time! I want you to look at these cakes and feel the potential for your wedding. To see how personality has been infused in the simplest of ways. Sometimes it is the addition of flowers, metallic paint or both! You can also be over the top, and that is honestly awesome!!

Flowers

One of the simplest of ways to make me fall in love with your wedding cake, as a wedding photographer, is to incorporate flowers to it. Seriously, a white or cream buttercream cake with flowers? Gorgeous. Simple. Stunning. Plus, it smells awesome and makes me want to eat it!! The flowers can be on the top, cascading down the cake, I am not picky. The flowers look great doing it all!

Harry Potter Styled Engagement Session | C Wright Photography

Yes, Harry Potter

I feel like this should go without saying but, I am obsessed with Harry Potter. In my quest to show couples out there that you can pair a bit of geek with a lot of class, I conceived this engagement session. I paired with Lauren from Toast from the Host, who made my ideas come to life in the coolest of ways!

The Details

The save the dates couldn’t have been more perfect–I know the catcher/keeper verbiage is seen a lot, but paired with hand written calligraphy breathes new life into it. In fact everything is hand drawn, including the snitch! Megan from Megan Marie Calligraphy is insanely talented, I can’t even draw stick figures and she is making my Harry Potter dreams come true! And yes, the paper is ripped artistically and fringed in gold.

Harry Potter engagements

Next, because I am obsessed with macrons, those needed to be included. Wink by Erica put some metallic illustrations on the macrons and they instantly became Harry Potter-esque but in a cool, classy way. To not be too overt, colors other than the four houses were used. I wanted to keep it more neutral. Paired with metallic paint, they look magical! *wink*

Houston Wedding Photographer–Briscoe Manor

Briscoe Manor is located in Richmond Texas, on a large plot of land west of downtown Houston. The white stone on the outside is reminiscent of Ashton Gardens, but that’s where the similarities end. From the layout of the space, to the touches in every room in the venue, you can tell a lot of thought was put into making this venue an amazing place to get married. Already excited? Check them out!

Getting Ready

There are spaces for both the bride and groom to get ready in, and they are thankfully not remotely close to each other. The space for the bride is large with tons of natural light flooding into it–which is what you want! Lots of natural light means great makeup and pictures. There are tons of mirrors, comfortable seating in a room with high ceilings made of beautiful dark wood. If I were a bride, this space would make me feel both comfortable and pampered.

Briscoe Manor

For the guys, they are in a different part of the venue, and Briscoe Manor calls it the groom’s lounge. It has individual lockers for each guy, a pool table and a TV. Basically it is the perfect place for the guys to get ready. This room is on an upper level, close to the reception hall, with no windows. But it is nice and large, and is close to the bar!
