Houston Portrait Photographer | Adult Cake Smash

Robert’s Adult Cake Smash

My husband turned 30 this year and it hit me a week before his birthday–he needed to do a manly cake smash!! Robert was initially not into it, questioning why a cake smash needed to happen, to which I said “you have a problem eating a delicious vanilla cake without utensils and getting messy?”. When he saw it that way, he was convinced!!

I thankfully had a lot of the pieces for the shoot already, like the glass tumbler and coke, as well as the banner that said “Birthday Dude”, so all that was needed for this cake smash was a cake and a cake stand! I also might have picked up a donut or two to complete the look.

Blogger Photographer Houston | Gracefully Sassy

Blogger Photographer

One of the cool things I fell into has been photographing Houston-based bloggers. The majority have been lifestyle and fashion, but there are also fitness, wellness and travel bloggers too. In fact the blogging community in Houston is healthy and amazing! I got into it because a loyal client of mine, Sarah, whom you should all be well acquainted with, started her own fashion blog. I love these sessions because they are light and fun, and I get to ogle their cool accessories. Also, as a Canadian, I am still finding new places around Houston I never knew existed! These sessions help me explore more of Houston, with my camera 🙂

Gracefully Sassy

Sarah, aka Gracefully Sassy, is this truly sweet, good-heart woman who has a passion for cute quirky styles. She loves peppering her outfits with the best accessories, like a pizza or cactus purse! Sarah also loves pops of color and always tries to incorporate budget-friendly pieces into the mix. She has been at this for just over a year, and her blog and advice is so strong, you would have no idea she is new to all this!

My favorite outfits of hers always include a bright pop of color or something unexpected. We love doing our photos at funky walls or in Highland Village, as there is so much to work with there plus a Kate Spade store! Also, there is a Sprinkles Cupcakes there and I have been known to buy one or two cupcakes.

She is gearing up for a fun summer of watermelon, cactus themes with bright colors and maybe fireworks thrown in, who knows?? Behind the scenes Sarah is happily married and has an adorable pup who has stolen their hearts. To see more of her go to her Instagram and Facebook page!

Top 5 Ways to Rock Your Engagement Session

top 5 ways to rock your engagement sessionYour engagement session is a great way to bring your love story to life! Like Tony Stark and Pepper Potts, your relationship might not have happened right away, but there was alway a spark. Your engagement pictures area great way to incorporate your passion for each other and the things that brought you together. For our engagement session, you bet your bottom my husband and I incorporated some Survivor elements into it {that was how we met, online, on a website devoted to the TV show Survivor}. Telling your story and looking awesome are just a few of the things to think about for your engagement session.

When deciding on your location you have tons of options. You can use a blank slate, like a park to tell your story. You can choose a restaurant or location that is important to your relationship. Where did you go on your first date? Do you both love ice cream or coffee? All of those places are great choices for great pictures that can capture your personalities. If you are a more rustic couple, pictures at a barn or open field could work like a charm. Movie buffs? What about a movie theatre? Book lovers? A library would be an awesome choice. Comic books your thing? A comic book store to start and ending at a coffee shop while reading your favorite volumes would epic! The world is your oyseter and your shoot can be anything you want it to be.

I couldn’t help but fall in love with this couple as soon as I heard their adorable story. The now newlyweds met through their mutual friend at a UFC viewing party. Their love story began while Stacey finished school. The age-old phrase must be true– distance really does make the heart grow fonder, which I know from personal experience with my husband! Thus, when she moved back to the area, their love blossomed. On their 5-year anniversary, in front of the Houston skyline (the same spot where Jorge told Stacey he loved her for the first time) he popped the question.

The Wedding

The ceremony was held at the Prince of Peace church, a gorgeous Catholic church in North Houston. The pastor during the ceremony made the traditional funny and personalized.  The setting matched the couple’s colors, royal blue and silver, to the breathtaking stained glass they were married under. La Tranquilla Ranch, which is a few miles down the road, is where the reception was held. A mariachi band serenaded the guests throughout the night– what a fun surprise for everyone! My favorite detail from the reception had to be the candy bar, but really, is that a surprise? They had such a variety of tasty treats to suit every kind of sweet tooth. As the night wound to an end, the couple made their grand exit under an arch of sparklers. A perfect ending to a perfect day.

I loved the touches that represented the couple, from the groom’s cake, to the fireman hats. The shirts the women wore before getting into their dresses. The sparkly Keds Stacey wore after the ceremony. These two really do make a genuinely amazing couple. Not only that, but the people they chose to surround themselves on this sacred day in their lives tells so much about them. Thank you for letting me into your lives and granting me the honor of getting to know the two of you better.

Fall Mini Sessions Part 2!

Part two of my fall mini sessions continues with two fun families! Same gorgeous location: Christina V Adair Park. Families of four is this post’s theme.

The Ferrara’s

Big grins greeted me, as I turned to their car. The light of the day was quickly dying, but instead of being stressed, Lisa, Jason and their twin daughters took it as a challenge. Having photographed this family last year for Christmas, we were already comfortable together. This lead naturally to us doing a few poses and then getting silly. The smiles were all natural, the love tangible.

Houston Wedding Photographer – Chandelier Grove

One of the most beautiful venues I had the opportunity to photograph a wedding at in 2016 was at Chandelier Grove. Tucked away in north Houston, this venue has ample room for two buildings plus parking and sprawling land for portraits. The owners only take a certain number of weddings a year, at an intimate size. With its barn location and greenery, it is one of my favorite places to photograph a wedding.

The House

Not every venue has the space for both the bride and groom to get ready in. Even if there is a space for the groom and his wedding party, most venues have a tiny space for them, making taking pictures more challenging. At Chandelier Grove, this is the exact opposite. There is a kitchen, a living room and reading room for the men to relax in. They are tucked away comfortably at the rear of the house, making the front the space for the bride and her wedding party. The room has plenty of space for a large wedding party and the family. Everything is in dark wood and decorated beautifully. Also, with ample seating, the wedding party can lounge as pictures are taken and the bride gets ready.

Hostess with the Mostess

Did you know that Houston has its own subscription box? One geared towards people who love entertaining in their home, with a love for unique find ands alcohol? Yeah, neither did I! But it’s true! It’s called The Mostess Box and they had a launch party a little bit ago to show off all of their awesome boxes they have planned. I was there to capture all the details and awesome women in attendance!

The Party

In each corner of the space there was a a different styled bar cart or table. It featured each upcoming box, the contents for each one, in a cute stylized way. If the box featured food, we got to snack on it! There were two customized drinks as well, which were dangerously delicious by the way. Other fun touches? Swag bags, macrons with the box’s logo on it, and an incredible confetti bar! I made a ton of boomerang videos of it as well!

The launch party could not have happened if it hadn’t had the wonderful support of the following people:
