Robert’s Adult Cake Smash

My husband turned 30 this year and it hit me a week before his birthday–he needed to do a manly cake smash!! Robert was initially not into it, questioning why a cake smash needed to happen, to which I said “you have a problem eating a delicious vanilla cake without utensils and getting messy?”. When he saw it that way, he was convinced!!

I thankfully had a lot of the pieces for the shoot already, like the glass tumbler and coke, as well as the banner that said “Birthday Dude”, so all that was needed for this cake smash was a cake and a cake stand! I also might have picked up a donut or two to complete the look.

Mommy & Me Minis

These next two Mommy & Me minis were set in the morning. The very early morning! The sun was so much softer, a little less golden. The softness made for pictures that made me rethink whether I preferred evening sessions. Plus, it was nice and not crazy hot, which is a miracle in May in Houston.

The Shanks

I have been photographing these sweet twin girls since they born and in the ICU. I still remember when Eileen told me she was pregnant, she was so excited and happy. And these girls are two years old! From her Facebook posts, Eileen loves dressing up her girls all the time. So it should be no surprise that all three ladies were dressed up for their 7am session. Coffee in hand, Eileen didn’t only make this session work, she and her girls rocked it!

The Hecks

Let’s discuss how obsessed Wendy’s daughter is with bubbles! She accidentally stumbled upon them and then they were in her hands the rest of the session. I love how Wendy went with some of my more quirky ideas, like drinking coffee in some of the pictures. It’s these little things that show what motherhood is really like. Her daughter also turned two this year, and loves being read to. This session is basically all lambs and loveliness.

One of the cool things I fell into has been photographing Houston-based bloggers. The majority have been lifestyle and fashion, but there are also fitness, wellness and travel bloggers too. In fact the blogging community in Houston is healthy and amazing! I got into it because a loyal client of mine, Sarah, whom you should all be well acquainted with, started her own fashion blog. I love these sessions because they are light and fun, and I get to ogle their cool accessories. Also, as a Canadian, I am still finding new places around Houston I never knew existed! These sessions help me explore more of Houston, with my camera 🙂

Gracefully Sassy

Sarah, aka Gracefully Sassy, is this truly sweet, good-heart woman who has a passion for cute quirky styles. She loves peppering her outfits with the best accessories, like a pizza or cactus purse! Sarah also loves pops of color and always tries to incorporate budget-friendly pieces into the mix. She has been at this for just over a year, and her blog and advice is so strong, you would have no idea she is new to all this!

My favorite outfits of hers always include a bright pop of color or something unexpected. We love doing our photos at funky walls or in Highland Village, as there is so much to work with there plus a Kate Spade store! Also, there is a Sprinkles Cupcakes there and I have been known to buy one or two cupcakes.

She is gearing up for a fun summer of watermelon, cactus themes with bright colors and maybe fireworks thrown in, who knows?? Behind the scenes Sarah is happily married and has an adorable pup who has stolen their hearts. To see more of her go to her Instagram and Facebook page!

Top 5 Ways to Rock Your Engagement Session

Top 5 Ways to Rock Your Engagement Session

Engagement session tipsYour engagement session is a great way to bring your love story to life! Like Tony Stark and Pepper Potts, your relationship might not have happened right away, but there was alway a spark. Your engagement pictures area great way to incorporate your passion for each other and the things that brought you together. For our engagement session, you bet your bottom my husband and I incorporated some Survivor elements into it {that was how we met, online, on a website devoted to the TV show Survivor}. Telling your story and looking awesome are just a few of the things to think about for your engagement session.

Location

When deciding on your location you have tons of options. You can use a blank slate, like a park to tell your story. You can choose a restaurant or location that is important to your relationship. Where did you go on your first date? Do you both love ice cream or coffee? All of those places are great choices for great pictures that can capture your personalities. If you are a more rustic couple, pictures at a barn or open field could work like a charm. Movie buffs? What about a movie theatre? Book lovers? A library would be an awesome choice. Comic books your thing? A comic book store to start and ending at a coffee shop while reading your favorite volumes would epic! The world is your oyseter and your shoot can be anything you want it to be.

Houston Portrait Photographer – Fall Mini Sessions Pt. 3!

Houston Portrait Photographer – Fall Mini Sessions Pt. 3!

Houston Portrait Photographer – Mini Session Time!!

These mini-sessions were so much fun! Getting to work with people as sweet at these gals is definitely one of the biggest perks of the business!

The first session was scheduled by the mama of these two little ladies, Katie. She wanted some updated images of her beautiful not-so-little-girls, Sydney June and Mia. She decided to dress the girls in blue and white with leather fringed boots. Mia (big sis) was an absolute natural in front of the camera. Besides a small fear of snakes we discovered, she had an awesome time getting some great shots in the park. Little bit, Sydney June, reminded me a lot of myself when I was her age. Precocious and strong-willed. As soon as we were done posing, that was it. She did do an awesome job of chasing her sister around though, which led to some pretty adorable giggles 🙂

Lindsey is in the process of becoming a yoga-instructor. A great client to have! She’s wanting to display some of these images in her new studio, and I was more than happy to help. We stuck with dark naturals when styling, the brightest colors coming from her yoga wheel. Lindsey is one of those naturally gorgeous people. Her inner confidence shined bright as a stared at her natural beauty through my lens. We found an adorably quiet and serene nook with bountiful natural lighting. Perfect for me to capture some truly stunning shots of a few of her poses. Her balance and poise utterly amazed me.

I couldn’t help but fall in love with this couple as soon as I heard their adorable story. The now newlyweds met through their mutual friend at a UFC viewing party. Their love story began while Stacey finished school. The age-old phrase must be true– distance really does make the heart grow fonder, which I know from personal experience with my husband! Thus, when she moved back to the area, their love blossomed. On their 5-year anniversary, in front of the Houston skyline (the same spot where Jorge told Stacey he loved her for the first time) he popped the question.

The Wedding

The ceremony was held at the Prince of Peace church, a gorgeous Catholic church in North Houston. The pastor during the ceremony made the traditional funny and personalized.  The setting matched the couple’s colors, royal blue and silver, to the breathtaking stained glass they were married under. La Tranquilla Ranch, which is a few miles down the road, is where the reception was held. A mariachi band serenaded the guests throughout the night– what a fun surprise for everyone! My favorite detail from the reception had to be the candy bar, but really, is that a surprise? They had such a variety of tasty treats to suit every kind of sweet tooth. As the night wound to an end, the couple made their grand exit under an arch of sparklers. A perfect ending to a perfect day.

I loved the touches that represented the couple, from the groom’s cake, to the fireman hats. The shirts the women wore before getting into their dresses. The sparkly Keds Stacey wore after the ceremony. These two really do make a genuinely amazing couple. Not only that, but the people they chose to surround themselves on this sacred day in their lives tells so much about them. Thank you for letting me into your lives and granting me the honor of getting to know the two of you better.
