Houston Family Photographer | Wacky Fun Family!

When you meet a family as fun and wacky as Kayla’s, you know their portrait session is going to be awesome! Kayla confessed that they hadn’t had family pictures “in forever”. Considering her family is large, unconventional and awesome, she preferred a location as unique as them. We were hoping the blue trees would still be around, but sadly they had faded, so we went to plan B. And plan B was awesome: graffiti walls!

The Walls

We started off at the Houston wall because the light was hitting it perfectly. Plus, it’s iconic, ok? I love the sets when they are walking towards me, looking iconic. Then we went across the street to the zipper wall. We all loved the wall because of its vibrant colors. Right beside that wall were two other walls with vibrant red and purple shades, so obviously we had to do pictures there too!!

I think my favorite moment is when they all tried to jump in the air at the same time. It reminded me of one of my favorite scenes in The Office when the group trips to nail the jump. It is perfectly imperfect, and makes me laugh every time!!

When looking all this fun family photography, which moment is your favorite? Is it the group shots of them walking towards the camera, the jumping photo, or did something else jump out at you?

Houston Family Photographer | Studio Wardrobe

In late 2018 I decided to invest in clothing for family portraits. I knew that clothing was probably one of the biggest stressors going into a session for the entire family, but especially the mom. The goal is to make family portraits a totally different experience for the families that invest with me.

To start building this wardrobe, I hired Ashley Kahn Wardrobe Stylist to get the perfect pieces. She understood my vision and helped me get the most beautiful things!

What’s in the Wardrobe

I invested in clothing for toddlers to teenagers, for all genders. Sizing for adults range from small to plus size {up to size 24}. It was important that the looks that coordinate between siblings and parents and I might have found a few important pieces for moms to makes them feel special. Because, let’s be honest, it’s the mothers who put the most work into these sessions. So I bought a few pieces from BHLDN!

For colors, the goal is to have the outfits work in my studio or in a park. Both places are where most sessions happen. The clothing has to go with the greens and browns of the park, and also have some pizzaz for the studio. Cream, soft pinks and blues, tulle skirts and suspenders. They look amazing in both spaces!

The only items I don’t carry are pants for the men, but I do send you a list of pants that will match perfectly.

Houston Portrait Photographer | Christmas Mini Portraits Part 3

As we are in the middle of Christmas mini season, I want to share even more images from last year’s sessions! The following two sessions were so much fun, and I am highly anticipating capturing the Ferrera family December 8th!

Ferrera Family

Yes, you’re seeing double again! This was the third family I captured with a set of twins. These amazing girls are competitive gymnasts who are inspiring at what they do. Fun fact behind this session: the amazing dresses the girls are in were decided on at the last minute, much to their chagrin! Even though they weren’t entirely feeling it, I think the entire family rocked the session and look stunning. And obviously I loved the girls dresses, I am a huge sucker for glitter!

Houston Portrait Photographer | Christmas Mini Portraits Part 2

Christmas Mini Portraits

Who is excited for more Christmas mini portraits? This is part two, and has some super cute kiddos, a lot of silly moments and jumping on couches! Part two has some pictures of my favorite families and I am excited to share!

The Colemans

I feel like at this point everyone who follows my blog and work should be as good of friends with this family as I am! I say this every time I write about them in my blog: I photographed their wedding a few moons ago and ever since we have been in each other’s lives! Emily has been on a path lately of getting into the best shape of her life! She has been amazing to watch transform, her grit is inspiring. I love her family–her husband is goofy but kind. Her daughter is so full of energy and such a free spirit. And their newest family member? He’s so cute!!! So dig in and enjoy their cuteness!

Houston Senior Photographer | JW’s Houston Senior Session

Houston is full of awesome areas to do a senior session – and I had so much fun with JW! Being a Houston senior photographer means that I get to explore our city to find fun ways to incorporate my client’s personalities into their images.  Not only did we get to use the awesome murals in downtown Houston, but we were able to find a beautiful wooded area for a more traditional vibe. One thing about JW: he loves to workout and football. We were able to go to a gym and get some super fun and unique senior shots that really show off his personality.

Senior photos are the kind of thing that you look back on to remember exactly who you were in high school. I know I remember vividly! In such a transient time, you want to make sure that you’ve got a photographer that will capture that for you. When JW and I met, he had a clear vision in his mind for these pictures. I tried to pay homage to exactly who JW is, while also thinking about his family and the things that they would want to see when they look back at these photos.  We had a blast – and I think you’ll be able to see that when you check out the images!

Houston Portrait Photographer | Adult Cake Smash

Robert’s Adult Cake Smash

My husband turned 30 this year and it hit me a week before his birthday–he needed to do a manly cake smash!! Robert was initially not into it, questioning why a cake smash needed to happen, to which I said “you have a problem eating a delicious vanilla cake without utensils and getting messy?”. When he saw it that way, he was convinced!!

I thankfully had a lot of the pieces for the shoot already, like the glass tumbler and coke, as well as the banner that said “Birthday Dude”, so all that was needed for this cake smash was a cake and a cake stand! I also might have picked up a donut or two to complete the look.

Houston Branding Photographer | Focused + Fit

At the beginning of 2017 I started offering branding photography to small businesses. It’s only fitting that in this new arena that my first client would come from my crossfit community. The crossfit community has been so great to me, it was where I started with in my photography journey and has opened so many doors in my journey.

Meet Lisa

Lisa has been a dedicated member of Pearland CrossFit for longer than I have been attending. It is obvious her dedication to eating cleanly and working out when you meet her. Her passion for all things fitness/food organically led led to her becoming a CrossFit level 1 trainer and getting her Precision Nutrition Level 1 certification.

Focused + Fit’s Branding

Enter Focused + Fit! When Lisa decided she wanted to help others and start her own business, she decided on branding colors of orange and white. Her logo is simple and clean, as is her website. When we started discussing what she wanted as her branding pictures, she wanted to keep things consistent in coloring and cleanliness. We did a few concepts–meeting a client, working out and cooking healthy meals. We had pops of orange throughout the imagery to tie into her branding and honestly I love it!

Concept One: Client Meeting

Senior Year Photographs: Inspired Creativity

Your Senior Year Photographs

Senior year is all about having fun and tackling new adventures, right? So why not channel that right into your senior portraits?…Let’s call them senior photos because ‘portrait’ is so formal! Seniors are getting much more creative and the days of just the cap and gown formal portraits has gone. Considering the cost of senior photos, the trend to truly personalize them is perfect. I’m loving this new movement!

Don’t get me wrong, you earned that cap and gown, so we’ll get some snaps of that, but I want to see the fun and creative side of you too. I strive to bring out the personality in my seniors. Before any session we sit down and discuss what’s truly unique to you. You want a GQ-fast food shoot like Andrew McBurnie at Taco Bell? You got it! I love that he used that opportunity to 1. Look freaking sharp and 2. Chose a location that he and his friends spent a lot of time at during his high school career. You can’t look at those photos and not see his personality shine right through, serious – but clearly not too serious.
