Harry Potter Wedding Photographer | Hufflepuff Inspiration

As a Harry Potter wedding photographer, I have seen and been inspired by some magical wedding ideas! As a Hufflepuff, I felt like it was time to bring the house into the spotlight, especially since the other houses seem to get the most attention {I am looking at you Gryffindor and Slytherin}. Let’s also recognize that yellow is a hard color to incorporate into a wedding look because if you go too bright you blind people. Oh and if you use too much then your wedding looks like a big sunflower.

The key to a Hufflepuff wedding is being strategic in where the yellow and black are utilized! I also feel like instead of a dark black, shades of darker grey and pewter could be used to make things a little less jarring. In all of the inspiration images I have amassed, I have focused on having white being the color that balances the overall look and feel of this inspiration.

Outfits

I love the intricate gold detailing on the bridal gown shown below. It’s a small but elegant way to work some Hufflepuff magic into the bridal gown. It also has an art deco feel to it that I love! I also love the shoes at the bottom as an aded golden touch for the bride.

For bridesmaid dresses I embraced the idea of gold glitter glam!! Paired with black or pewter heels, it is the perfect Hufflepuff look, while still being elegant.

Houston Wedding Photographer | Sarah’s Bridal Portraits

Sarah’s Bridal Portraits

The sun was soft and warm, the morning of Sarah’s bridal portraits. She was ready at the break of dawn, her mother having flown on a red-eye flight to make sure she was there to help. Sarah’s dress is strapless with pockets and a gorgeous belt. Combined with the sun and nature, Sarah’s bridal session is nothing short of gorgeous.

I am excited to share Sarah’s bridal portraits, as she and Earl got married yesterday! Remember their engagement session? The wedding was beautiful and fun! Congratulations to this amazing couple!

Wonder Woman Bridal Session | Houston Wedding Photographer

Wonder Woman Bridal Session

Finding a lack of ingenuity within the wedding world for bridal sessions and weddings with personality, I have been planning and photographing styled sessions to show you can do this in a timeless way. That was the goal behind this Wonder Woman bridal session. I wanted to incorporate touches that were distinctly Wonder Woman without it being too garish. Weddings are moving more towards a showcase of the couple and illustrating their personality.  And I feel superheroes are vastly under-represented and seen as too comical to be taken seriously. Well, no more!

Inspiration

The inspiration for the Wonder Woman bridal session started with the origins of the woman herself. In her mythology, she is a demigoddess and warrior of the Amazons. Basically, a regal princess. The Amazons from Greek mythology bring to mind lush gardens and greenery, columned architecture and long flowing one-shoulder dresses. I wanted all of this for the session.

With particular attention paid to not making this session too garish, a team was assembled! What makes this have a Wonder Woman feel without being too comic-booky is the dress. And it being combined with the location. Rice University has columns galore and lots of lush greenery. The dress was simple but elegant. It draped over one shoulder and had a gold waistband. As an added touch, a gold lasso was incorporated to hang at her side. The finishing touches were the accessories–with particular attention paid to the head piece. This piece is the most obvious for the Wonder Woman touches, but is still elegant. Overall, I feel this session looks elegant and is inspirational all at the same time!

I held onto these images for a while because it was published in Offbeat Bride in October. When I saw that the movie was going to be released early this year, I decided to roll these images out in conjunction with the movie. Which, I must add, was amazing!!!

6 Ways to Find the Best Vendors for your Wedding

best vendors for your weddingBest Vendors for Your Wedding

Finding the best vendors for your wedding can be tricky! These 6 tips are a guide to help you navigate hiring the best vendors for your wedding. You are essentially planning a big party, with a lot of people contributing to it. It can be overwhelming, and more times than I care to admit, I have heard horror stories about everything to florists, to bakers, DJs and venues to {gasp!} photographers. You don’t want that to be you! To help you make the best decisions possible, here are a few tips from my experience both as a bride and as an industry professional.

Contracts

Have one!

Promise me now, you will not hire any vendor without signing a contract. A contract you have read and understand. This piece of paper isn’t there to just protect the business owner; it’s there to protect you too. It sets the expectations for both parties to come together and do business. The wedding industry is made up mainly of self-employed individuals, and if you know the ‘right’ person, you might get a great discount {yay you!}, but don’t hire them if there isn’t even a whisper of a contract. That contract holds them accountable for their services to you and outlines payment, among other things.

Guardians of the Galaxy Styled Wedding

Guardians of the Galaxy?

Um heck yes to Guardians of the Galaxy! All of you know I have quirky ideas, right? And a passion for Marvel? Well this passion has helped me create some pretty cool ideas, but I am truly in love with how this one turned out. The plus side? We are featured in Offbeat Bride for these pictures this week! I cannot think of a better reason to celebrate the second movie in the series coming out than by giving you these pictures to feast on!

The Table Settings

It’s Guardians of the Galaxy, so obviously there is a lot of gold in this. From the linens, to the cutlery, glasses, table chargers. It’s the perfect setting to show of dark pops of blue, green and burgundy. To add a subtle space feel, terrariums were used to hold the flowers. I love the height of the flowers almost as much as the starburst napkin holders. Also, rock candy was added to all the floral arrangements. Houston Wedding Photographer–The Bougainvilleas

Oh Bougainvilleas

As I walked into this venue I was charmed. The Bougainvilleas is located a little west of downtown Houston, on Westheimer. The outside is adorned with flowers, and although it isn’t on a huge patch land, it is no less impressive. Seriously, all the images from photographing there are gorgeous.

Bridal/Groom Area

The area for the women is nice and large, with ample seating. A huge mirror adorns the right side of the room. It made some for great shots of the bride getting ready, her ladies and mom loving on her, and easy candids. I love where the flowers were placed in these pictures, it added a feminine touch to these getting ready pictures.

Harry Potter Styled Engagement Session | C Wright Photography

Yes, Harry Potter

I feel like this should go without saying but, I am obsessed with Harry Potter. In my quest to show couples out there that you can pair a bit of geek with a lot of class, I conceived this engagement session. I paired with Lauren from Toast from the Host, who made my ideas come to life in the coolest of ways!

The Details

The save the dates couldn’t have been more perfect–I know the catcher/keeper verbiage is seen a lot, but paired with hand written calligraphy breathes new life into it. In fact everything is hand drawn, including the snitch! Megan from Megan Marie Calligraphy is insanely talented, I can’t even draw stick figures and she is making my Harry Potter dreams come true! And yes, the paper is ripped artistically and fringed in gold.

Harry Potter engagements

Next, because I am obsessed with macrons, those needed to be included. Wink by Erica put some metallic illustrations on the macrons and they instantly became Harry Potter-esque but in a cool, classy way. To not be too overt, colors other than the four houses were used. I wanted to keep it more neutral. Paired with metallic paint, they look magical! *wink*

Houston Wedding Photographer–Briscoe Manor

Briscoe Manor is located in Richmond Texas, on a large plot of land west of downtown Houston. The white stone on the outside is reminiscent of Ashton Gardens, but that’s where the similarities end. From the layout of the space, to the touches in every room in the venue, you can tell a lot of thought was put into making this venue an amazing place to get married. Already excited? Check them out!

Getting Ready

There are spaces for both the bride and groom to get ready in, and they are thankfully not remotely close to each other. The space for the bride is large with tons of natural light flooding into it–which is what you want! Lots of natural light means great makeup and pictures. There are tons of mirrors, comfortable seating in a room with high ceilings made of beautiful dark wood. If I were a bride, this space would make me feel both comfortable and pampered.

Briscoe Manor

For the guys, they are in a different part of the venue, and Briscoe Manor calls it the groom’s lounge. It has individual lockers for each guy, a pool table and a TV. Basically it is the perfect place for the guys to get ready. This room is on an upper level, close to the reception hall, with no windows. But it is nice and large, and is close to the bar!

What to Wear for Your Engagement Session {Ladies Guide}

engagement sessionAn engagement session is the perfect time for you and your partner to show off your connection and uniqueness. Everyone has a love story, but more than that, you have special reasons why you have stayed together. Mine? Robert and I loved Survivor {the TV show} and from there we jumped into other shows and movies. We are both competitive and silly and that has helped us keep our spark alive. In fact I talk about our love story a lot on my Instagram, you should check it out.

Colors

First rule of thumb for your engagement session: do not match 100%. Nothing screams 1985 than wearing white shirts and blue jeans in an effort to coordinate. Unless you are doing this as a sarcastic gesture, and in that case, may I suggest a button down white shirt? But in all seriousness, coordinating is the key. Start with yourself, and choose colors that make you feel good about yourself. An excellent rule of thumb is to not go too bright, as you want the focus to be on you and your partner. Instead wear softer shades of your favorite color and pair it with some neutrals. It will look soft and romantic. If you do want to have a pop of color, I encourage it with the shoes and accessories {or props!} (more…)
